      <image:title>how I work - The therapeutic process</image:title>
<image:caption>During weekly one-to-one sessions, I can support you to find out more about who you are and what you want. I provide a safe, respectful and empathic space where we can work together creatively to understand what you’re going through. We will explore your thoughts, feelings, attitudes, behaviours and imagination to understand the issues that are making life difficult right now, and to discover your hopes for the future and how to get there. I believe that exploring the unfolding relationship between the therapist and client is a crucial part of the therapeutic process as this can be an opportunity to build trust and awareness, talk about what’s challenging and try out new ways of being.</image:caption>

      <image:title>getting started - First steps</image:title>
<image:caption>The first step is to give me a call or send me an email. We will then fix an appointment as soon as we can. The initial session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to tell me what brings you to counselling. It will be a space for you to ask any questions you may have about me or the counselling process and I’ll do my best to answer these. You will get a sense of how we may work together and what it’s like to sit with me.</image:caption>

      <image:title>getting started - What next?</image:title>
<image:caption>If you decide to go ahead with further sessions, we will meet once a week at the same time. We may initially agree to meet for a fixed number of sessions – usually six or eight – to see how that works out. You may then decide to continue in open-ended therapy. We will regularly review how we’re working together as part of the therapeutic process.</image:caption>

      <image:title>about - Getting to know you</image:title>
<image:caption>Often we can feel overwhelmed by what's going on in our lives, and stuck in survival mode, unable to fully express ourselves or fulfil our potential. I can provide a safe and compassionate space for you to explore your behaviours, beliefs, emotions and memories to get a better sense of who you are. Which parts of yourself are you comfortable with and which would you prefer to get rid of? What bothers you? What judgements do you have? Who do you look up to and why?</image:caption>

      <image:title>about - Background</image:title>
<image:caption>Before setting up my practice, I spent twenty years in book publishing and was a Managing Editor at Penguin Random House for 10 years. Prior to that, I studied languages and taught English in Spain and Japan. Books can take us on a journey to new places, to learn new things and to get in touch with the different characters inside us, whether the adventurer in search of thrills, the shy schoolboy or the wild wolf. Along the way, I discovered that therapy also offers us an opportunity to connect with these different parts of ourselves – to be seen and accepted for who we truly are, to try out new ways of being and to explore our connection to the world we live in.</image:caption>

      <image:title>about - Why psychosynthesis?</image:title>
<image:caption>Psychosynthesis therapy values times of crisis, conflict and loss as opportunities to learn more about ourselves and what is meaningful to us. I believe our pain and suffering can pave the way for personal growth and transformation. They can help us to recognise our qualities, behaviours, beliefs and dreams, and to realise our full potential. For a brief explanation of what psychosynthesis is, see the Counselling Directory’s overview here.</image:caption>
